Ex-presidenten van Blizzard Entertainment richten nieuwe game studio op

Twee voormalige presidenten van Blizzard Entertainment namelijk Jen Oneal en J. Allen Brack, richten een eigen game studio op.

Deze studio gaat Magic Soup Games heten. Het is niet duidelijk wat voor soort game Magic Soup Games gaat maken. Ex-Blizzard-veteraan John Donham is ook medeoprichter van deze studio.

“J., John, and I have similar ideas about the types of games we want to make, and we’re tightly aligned on company goals and principles, so this was a natural fit for us,” said Magic Soup CEO and cofounder Jen Oneal, in a statement. “We know the quality of our games will be a reflection of our team culture. We’re doing the work up front to make sure we’re fostering creativity, fully remote collaboration and a diversity of backgrounds.”

“My years at Blizzard were dominated with Blizzard games, so more recently there was a whole lot across the industry to catch up on. Playing games helped inspire me, and reignited my conviction in their potential for powerful positive impact on the world. And that’s where I find myself today – full of fire and energy to create something exceptional. I am even more committed to getting it right, from the start, at Magic Soup. And I’m grateful for Jen and John’s partnership in that vision, said J. Allen brack”

J. Allen Brack werkte bij Blizzard sinds 2005. Meer dan 12 jaar heeft hij gewerkt aan World of Warcraft. In 2018 werd hij president van Blizzard Entertainment, maar in 2019 besloot hij te vertrekken nadat de staat Californië, Activision Blizzard aanklaagde wegens discriminatie en seksuele intimidatie op de werkvloer op basis van twee jaar onderzoek.

Jen Oneal heeft lange jaren gewerkt als hoofd van Vicarious Visions, de studio die Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy en Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 heeft gemaakt. In 2021 werd Vicarious Visions een Blizzard Studio en na het vertrek van J. Allen Brack, werd Jen Oneal de co-president van Blizzard samen met Mike Ybarra. Enkele maanden na haar promotie besloot Jen Oneal Blizzard te verlaten. Mike Ybarra is momenteel de enige president van Blizzard Entertainment.
