Microsoft bevestigt, Call of Duty en andere populaire games van Activision Blizzard blijven uitkomen op PlayStation

Afgelopen maand maakte Microsoft bekend dat het Activision Blizzard gaat overnemen voor een bedrag van bijna 70 miljard dollar.

De vraag bij veel PlayStation-gamers was, wat gaat er in de nabije toekomst gebeuren met Call of Duty en andere populaire games van Activision Blizzard op de PlayStation-consoles?

Microsoft vice chairman en president genaamd Bradford Lee Smith heeft vandaag een einde gemaakt aan alle speculatie. Microsoft heeft besloten om Call of Duty en andere populaire games van Activision Blizzard ook uit te brengen op PlayStation, zelfs nadat de huidige contracten met Sony zijn verlopen. Eerder gaf Bloomberg namelijk aan dat Activision een contract had gesloten met Sony voor drie nieuwe Call of Duty-games op PlayStation.

Ook nadat deze drie Call of Duty-games verschijnen, blijven nieuwe games dus gewoon uitkomen op PlayStation-consoles. Dit geldt ook voor de games van Blizzard zoals Overwatch en Diablo.

Afgelopen week deelde Sony ook een soortgelijk bericht maar dan over Bungie. Na de overname van Bungie door Sony, gaan games zoals Destiny en nieuwe projecten, ook uitkomen op Xbox-consoles.

“First, some commentators have asked whether we will continue to make popular content like Activision’s Call of Duty available on competing platforms like Sony’s PlayStation,” Smith said. “The obvious concern is that Microsoft could make this title available exclusively on the Xbox console, undermining opportunities for Sony PlayStation users.”

Smith continued, “To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation through the term of any existing agreement with Activision. And we have committed to Sony that we will also make them available on PlayStation beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love. We are also interested in taking similar steps to support Nintendo‘s successful platform. We believe this is the right thing for the industry, for gamers and for our business.”
