Al acht jaar lang was het uitgever EA die exclusief games maakte met de Star Wars-licentie.
Daar komt in de nabije toekomst verandering in want Ubisoft is bezig met het maken van een open wereld Star Wars-game. precieze details worden niet gegeven want deze game komt zeer waarschijnlijk niet uit voor 2023. Tot die tijd heeft uitgever EA namelijk het recht om Star Wars-games uit te brengen.
Wel weten we wie de nieuwe Star Wars-game gaat maken en dat is Ubisoft Massive, de ontwikkelaar achter The Division-franchise. Julian Gerighty wordt de game directeur van dit project en de game zal gerealiseerd worden met Ubisoft’s Snowdrop Engine. De Star Wars-games die EA had uitgebracht in de afgelopen jaren draaiden op Jedi Fallen Order na, allemaal op de Frostbite Engine.
Sean Shopaw, senior vice president of Global Games and Interactive Experiences bij Disney, zegt dat de samenwerking met EA doorgaat en dat er nog meer Star Wars-games komen vanuit de kant van EA.
